We Don’t Have to Learn the Hard Way

Big Idea of the Series: All of the Bible is inspired by God and is useful for us.  Too often we ignore parts of God’s Word to our own hardship.  When we do that we will have to learn the hard way what others have already learned.  This series will look at some of the minor prophets and learn the lessons they taught.

Key verse for the series: Romans 14:4 (GW) Everything written long ago was written to teach us so that we would have confidence through the endurance and encouragement which the Scriptures give us.

Obadiah: What are you trusting in?

Big Idea: Edom trusted in their defenses, wisdom, and economic standing to protect them.  God brought them down.  Only by placing our trust in Christ can we be assured of salvation.

Haggai: Make the worship of God a priority

Big Idea: The Israelites never had enough because they treated the worship of God lightly.  Only when they made the worship of God a priority did they succeed.  God still desires us to make worship of Him a priority.  He will not bless our sin.

Zephaniah: No sin is hidden from God

Big Idea: Zephaniah prophesied about judgment on the nation’s sins.  He also told people that their personal sins would be punished.  God sees our so-called secret sins.  He sees and will punish!  But God is also merciful and will forgive our confessed and repented sins!

Nahum: God is a God of justice

Big Idea: Nineveh was judged as a nation for its many sins.  It was destroyed.  That was God’s justice carried out.  But God also is merciful.  He carried out His fierce justice on Jesus so that He can show mercy toward us.
