Big Idea of the Series: New Life was started so that those who are unlovable would feel the love of Jesus. The verse used in the early days to describe New Life’s mission was Luke 4:16-19 (ESV) 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. 17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
This series will look at each of the different four groups of people that Jesus came to save. We will see how as we live out this calling, we are sowing seeds of God’s love into people’s hearts.
… To Bring Good News to the Poor
Big Idea: Jesus came to tell poor people that they are rich in God’s love and favor. He showed this by how He lived among them and helped them. We are called to do the same.
To Free Those Captive in Sin
Big Idea: Jesus came to set the captives free. Sin holds us captive to the devil. Jesus set us free so that we can proclaim freedom to others who are captives to sin and the devil.
To Recover Sight of the Spiritually Blind
Big Idea: Jesus did restore sight to blind people. But He also opened the spiritually blind eyes of people. We are called to point people to Jesus who makes the spiritually blind see the Glory of God.
…To Set at Liberty
Big Idea: Jesus came to free those who are held captives: captive to fear, captive to sin, captive to the devil. His death and resurrection are the source of our liberty. We are called to free those who are captives to these things as well.
